Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to produce photo images that may be used as stock photos for commercial use.

It applies to individuals who have their own photo imaging practice submitting photos to a stock repository or work for photo imaging organisations whose purpose is to provide stock photo images.

No licensing, legislative or certification conditions apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Plan creation of stock images

1.1 Research information on contemporary styles and conceptual or aesthetic approaches to inform production of stock photo images

1.2 Evaluate, test and refine technical requirements for range of stock photo imaging projects, and confirm approach with relevant personnel

1.3 Prepare pricing schedules and business documents as required

2. Prepare for creation of stock images

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

  • interpret requirements with relevant personnel
  • organise photo imaging equipment, subjects and locations to shoot photo images according to legal requirements
  • produce professional standard photo images suitable for stock photos
  • optimise and upload images to stock repositories, meeting required technical standards
  • process, catalogue and archive stock photo image products in accordance with industry standards
  • evaluate feedback, creative products and own performance.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

  • explain contemporary issues that inform stock photo imaging practice
  • explain conceptual and aesthetic approaches to creating stock photo images
  • list and describe potential buyers of stock photo images
  • explain the business and intellectual property arrangements typically associated with producing original stock photo images
  • outline systems used to catalogue and archive photo images and business records.

Assessment Conditions

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:

  • photo imaging capture and production equipment
  • suitable shoot locations.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
